#MusicMonday: Racella WAVES EP

We’re baaack and what better way to kick off December than with some brand new music from Racella?! This LA-based singer-songwriter, composer, and producer has written for Janet Jackson, Anderson Paak, SiR, and Kelly Rowland among many others, and first caught our attention back in 2017 with her Maganda Way EP. She’s back with a bold new look and fearless sound on her latest 5-track EP, WAVES, which was released on her birthday, November 12 (hella fitting record name for a Scorpio cuz water signs) and produced by Grammy-nominated, Platinum-selling producers Dem Jointz and Swiff D.

The EP was written in 2015 a few weeks after her wedding, in the wake of a catastrophic car accident that caused her husband to undergo heart and spinal surgery and left him with a 10% chance of survival. Instead of succumbing to fear and doubt, she stayed with him in the hospital and used all her energy on prayer and writing music on the phases and waves they experienced together.

Our personal faves: the soaring, heart-wrenching “CDTOMO (Can’t Do This On My Own)”, which was written at the edge of her husband’s hospital bed; and the opening track “Wonder” a meditative track on love and longing “I can’t help but wonder ‘bout you/Can’t get you off mind, no/No I can’t help but wonder if you/Wonder ‘bout me too.”
