Her name meaning ‘Coveted Gold’, the Visayan goddess Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan holds domain over the treasures inside the earth - precious stones and gold. One of the “Three Great Beauties”, she is a descendant of Malikum sa T’wan the Earth God who rules over the forests, plains, mammals and earthbound diwatas. A fierce protector raised in combat by dwende (dwarves), she takes delight in punishing the greedy. Dripping in gold and precious metals, her irresistibility is both alluring and frightening. Who in their earthly form can resist the power of wealth?
Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan brings us to a place of inner justice and integrity. Through identifying our right relationship with wealth, we recognize that greed defies the natural circularity of life processes. The fruits of the earth go dusty and rancid when stagnant, like standing water.
