Anam Sinaya can be found in all the waters of the ocean, in the pearl and the conch shell. She is prayed to when first wetting your fishing hook or net in hopes of a good harvest from the sea’s life-giving waters.
In our modern times, fishing may not be an integral part of our everyday existence - but we all do experience the obscurity of chance. It is not certain what will fall into your net as you fish the wide ocean. The same can be said as we traverse our immense internal ocean, though the endless sea is abundant and the gems of wisdom are yours, if you cast your net in good spirit.
Goddess of the Sea and protector of fishermen, Aman Sinaya is one of the primordial Tagalog deities along with the sky god Bathala and Amihan, the northeastern wind. Aman Sinaya and Bathala were always in a state of competition; Aman Sinaya sent violent winds into the sky, while Bathala hurled mountains down into the seas, creating the Phillippine islands. In response, Amihan drew Earth and Sky closer together to harmonize their rivalry.
This creation story, about a blending of both Earth and Sky; reminds us of our existence as part of two worlds; simultaneously both finite and boundless. Here is the same conundrum with Pisces: having one eye capable of seeing with spirit, and the other lodged into our heavy 3-D reality. Pisces is the archetype of the infinite inner world, a place we all go when we dream and meditate in order to push the bounds of what is possible in this life.
This month, we are urged to follow our subconscious and the subtlety of messages between words. While the overall theme of 2020 is to reign in productivity, Pisces season sensitizes us to pull back a bit to fine-tune our visions.
